New guy from fargo. I just bought a 97 GTP, red, 2dr, blk lthr w/ 140k on it for 3,000. Glad to finally be a prix owner. I've been after on since they came out w/ the 97-03 body style(what gen is it? 3rd?). Is there anything I should know about the trans/motor/supercharger/electrical?

The rear deck lid has some minor rust under the wing that for some reason is darker then the rest of the car. He says its gotten progressively darker over the last 8 yrs. Its almost a maroon. I need to get to the rust pronto(any cheap suggestions). Also has a cracked windshield(cant seem to find glass online). Paint is a Lil chipped up front, head and taillights have condensation inside them(who has the best prices on aftermarkets). The front left wheel growls if i dart left quick at 40+. I'm hopping its just a wheel bearing. Its not loud, but you can hear it.

I figure I talked him down from 3800 so I didnt do to bad I dont think? I'll get some pics up when I get her home.

Anyone have the factory peak tq/hp and at what rpm? Any differences from yr to yr? I wana say 240hp, is this actual or did they underate it like they used to for muscle cars for insurance? Anyone have their own "stock" dyno charts they care to share? Whats the 3.8 capable of producing w/ bolt ons?

    Thanks

Not to mention its wicked fast!!! Trans seems to shift solid, no flair-ups or shudder. No leaks or cooling problems, idled for a half hour. Car seams solid. My dads got a 96 riv supercharged, I think it'll spank it. Sucks I'll have to burn premium. I think insurance will be a biggest kick to the nuts. Not to mention its got 5% all the way around w/ 10" strip on the windsheild, and its arrest-me-red. I might be getting acquainted w/ my local officers real soon

Thanks for the welcoming. Also, I'm aware buick and pontiac use gm motors but thanks for the tip . I'm just saying the prix feels quicker. Might be due to the cold air intake I'm hearing. Probably just sounds faster.

Should I be scared to unleash boost on the stock trans. It has 140k so I figure I better be nice to her. Being that I still have 2500 to drop in my trucks tranny. not to mention finishing the motor b4 Dec. Then the prix will get some mods. First it needs tips,paint,w-sheild, some wheels and tires. Motor will probably be the last thing I touch. Need to do some research first. I'm well inclined w/ N/A carbed V8 but FI EFI V6 will take some time.

Anyone got pics of dual tips they care to share? I like slp 04 and newer tips, I guess they fit w/ small modification to the hanger. Heres a link They look great. Anyone done this? Are these just factory tips? I'm open to other suggestions but these look nice. Also, whats a good paint to use on the front and rear fascia.

Aslong as your car was taken care of and your not hittin the strip every week I wouldnt be to concerned BUT the trans is the weak point on these cars. So who knows.

Yea I plan to be easy on her till my trucks finished and I have some spare change kicken in my pocket. I need this car as my daily driver so no burn outs, hard launches or FT shifts for this guy. Just the occasional FT kickdown on highway. I should probably take the GTP badges off so people arent itching to race me. Not like the car is that fast or light But just to have the bragging rights that I beat a GTP!!! Not to many domestic V6 could touch it unless it was a turbo. I'm talking the lil gay ricers that roll in packs around my town. I'll admit, its impressive what they can get them lil 4 sluggers to put out, granite they turn 14k rpm and have 4valve per chamber and weight little to nothing yet get 35mpg. Still, no thanks. I'll take my 20mpg domestic tank that depreciate half its value the min I drive off the lot. I'm a keep it American no matter how enticing they sound. Nothing makes 8,000 hp like a 500ci hemi V8 sucking nitro through a 14-71 blower w/ 45 lbs of boost. NOW THATS A MOTOR!!! BITE on that Japan .

I'm done ranting now haha. I'll ask my questions were they belong.
