New to this forum

Hey everyone, im nick im 17, and an aspiring auto mechanic. I have always been interested in cars, and have always tinkered with them, and have built a couple drag cars. Im going to be attending the University of Northwestern Ohio in june, and taking Mercedes Benz specific training to get a job for Mercedes.

My current vehicle is a 1998 grand prix gtp, which i have owned for about five months now. Currently I am in the process of rebuilding the motor (.20 over pistons, ported supercharger, ported intake), and having the trans rebuilt. As far as mods go there is really nothing going on the car yet due to the money going into the motor, and trans lol but i plan for full exhaust, gen v swap, suspension upgrades, CAI, and some other small things.

Very good forum I have had much help already before this post, and everyone has very posative things to say.

to be honest, dont rebuild the motor and bore it out, in the end it will cost you WAY more money than just buying a short block and dropping it in and then start modding.

also read this before you even think about doing stuff, its got ALOT of info on how to mod safely with out blowing it up.

Ive already started the build, its been bored already, and is about 50% reassembled. The money isnt the huge issue with the build, although the short block would in reality probably be cheaper, I like doing it as well as the expeirence, and self satisfaction lol.

I hope so lol, i've built a couple before, and they seem to be doing just fine (69 camaro with a 355, 69 chevelle zz572) but expeirence is key to me, hands on learning is the only way to learn cars in my opinion

where are you going for schooling?

hennipen tech college, its a local school by me. Its a good school and classes are small (around 20 kids).

thats a deffinate plus, i hear good things about the Univ. of Northwestern, and they instructors seemed pretty cool on the visit, so hopefully thigns will work out well there.

haha i had the supercharger, and valve covers powdercoated at a local shop so they should look a little better than those old nasty ones when the build is done.

and sadly enough yeah I do have to put the stock cam back in for now Im out of money after this trans and motor lol, but as soon as funds come back up again im thinkin about getting some aluminum heads, so that will be the opportunity for a new cam then

Haha i really wanted to do a cam swap now, but i cant afford another $600 right now with cam, springs, retainers, and all that good stuff. But zzp has a nice set of Al heads, so itll be heads, cam, headers, and some other small things, i just need more money haha. I cant decide between the AL heads or the just some cnc ported ones though

stage 2 heads are better than the CNC'd ones but a local machine shop should be able to set you up with some nice heads that are designed for the cam you want to run.

that'd be the best route to take.

that'll deffiantely influence the decision then, but like i said it will be a while lol. im gonna need struts soon, it needs some body work, but in time hopefully it'll be one bad machine
