Hey all. I bought a 97 GTP last night that needs some work so I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it or part it out. It appears to have some intake gasket issues, some noisy lifters as well as needing bearings in the SC. The body has some issues (dent in the door) and the interior needs some minor things fixed but it is a saveable car if I can find the parts. So that's what brings me here. I've worked on my brother's 96 GP and my Mom's Park Ave. Ultra so I've got a general idea as to what I'm doing on these cars but I'm sure this site will fill in the gaps.

    Welcome.

You can nab a few blower or rebuild the one you have for $100 or less if you look. Intake gaskets...and a blower gasket from GM...they are less than $60 IIRC...so check your local dealer or auto parts store. You DO NOT want a Garlock S/C gasket and you WANT the aluminum lower intake gaskets...you'll also need new coolant elbows when you change the LIM gaskets...those are in the HELP section at your local auto parts store too. This would also be a great time to do the plugs/wires/flush the coolant and replace with the yellow or green stuff/fuel filter/PCV Valve/Oil & Oil Filter, and an air filter.

If you plan on modding...check out my Safely Modding Your 3800 thread in the General Tech Section at the top. If not, I suggest Autolite 606 Spark Plugs, Lifetime warranty plug wires, and a K&N/AMSOil Drop In Air Filter

Thanks for the welcome! After doing a lot of thinking, I've decided to part this one out and take the money and buy another GP that needs less work. I've wanted one of these cars since they came out but this one needs more work than I want to attempt. So if anyone is looking for parts let me know! I've been on Ebay since 99 and have 100% positive feedback and have also sold quite a bit on LS1tech. So I'll look forward to a build up of another GP soon.

Well after a week of looking at the car I can't bring myself to part it out unless I find some serious issues while fixing it. I just need to find some random parts and tear into the engine. You say I need the aluminum lower intake gaskets, where might I find these? My local Pontiac parts department SUCKS so any references would be great. Thanks!
