Hello Prix fans. I am new to this forum and found this forum seeking help.
I have a 1998 GTP. Nice car I do not beat on. Today I became frustrated with the Prix. I came to stop in traffic. Light turns green and the Tranny wouldn't enguage. Slip? I had to Manually put in 2nd to nurse her home. I have 1st, 2nd, and reverse. The fluid is right on the mark (checked while running). I get on the computer and start researching. I'm seeing 3 possible problems.
Band broke in transmission, tranny computer or problem with torque convertor sensor.

I truly would appreciate any help/advise. I'm more the Trans Am lover---But, I own pontiac's

    Thank You, Dave

She just turned 140,000. Never any serious problems. Coil went out once and the typical window motor assembly. Other than that---- the car has been awesome.
Just got off the phone with mechanic he's going to read codes on it for me on monday. He (and I) are hoping it's a sensor or something simple. God---I hope it's not the tranny itself. I don't really have the funds for that now. I'm deep into restoring my 1979 Trans Am. I guess I'll know more Monday.

She's being funny and correcting your spelling. The car domain link is just info on her car that is in her sig. That will be there every post she makes.

As far as your transmission goes, I don't think you have a cheap fix on this one. You might need an overhaul or go to someone like Morad Parts Company and get a lower mileage used tranny and put that in. If you have it rebuilt, look into TripleEdgePerformance. You'll have a tough time finding a guy who builds a better tranny for our cars.

    Modified SSAC headers, K&N Intake, 3.4 MPS, S1X, Gen V, 104's, HPTuned.

Oooopps------ I'm sorry for the misspelling (Advice).. HaHa

Good God I hope I'm not looking at a bunch of $ for a tranny. The GTP is just my grocery getter. It's awesome on gas (not as good as the WS6 2001 T/A---can't/won't drive the WS6 in the snow). I've made trips all over the country in the GTP, too. Guess-----I'll find out the verdict later today, as she it at the mechanic shop right now.

Anybody on this site into 2nd Generation Trans Am's?
I have lots of parts I'm selling. Feel free to ask.
Once I figure out this forum, I'll get a little more involved.
