I have a 2004 GTP. A couple of days ago, check engine light came on so my wife took it to a shop to have the code read( I had to work,so she had to take it). I later talked to the guy and he said the T-stat was sticking open, causing low coolant temps(which checks out because my wife said when she drove it,the air from the heater wasn't heating up).Anyway, got a new, colder T-stat and replaced it.Everything is good, except the check engine light is still coming on.I knew some guys put colder T-stats in their cars,so I was wondering if this was an issue. Not sure if it was a 180 t-stat, but I think so and may have been a 160.

180* wont trip an SES, 160* will. 160* is way too cold for the car and you should take it out if you did happen to put in a 160* thermostat.

however, any colder than stock is useless unless you get a tune for it. your fan turn on temps will still be stock and the car wont run any cooler than it did before.

Correction...it will run cooler on the highway...noticeabley cooler...been there done that. Also, I have a 160* and it doesn't trip the SES...it's hit and miss...like high flow cats tripping the SES. If your car is stock...you want a stock T-Stat...195*. When you start modding, if you do, 180*.
