Key switch will not release to off position when car is shut off and in park. Depressing the shift button on the automatic shifter sometimes causes and solenoid noise in the steering column. The key switch then releases to off position and I can remove the key. I'm guessing that the switch at the base of the shifter has something to do with this. Can you buy just the switch or do you have to replace the whole shift mechanism.

    three options:
    http://www.grandprixforums.net/ignition_bypass.php
    pull the shift lock solenoid
    replace ignition switch

i would do one of the latter two.

    97 GT - slow, rusty
93 CTD - more slow, less rust
