Hi there. I'm thinking about picking up a 1997 Grand prix Gtp sedan for 400$ with the Top pan gasket leaking. Ontario car, Hu display Fully loaded except sunroof and leather. I was wondering if theres anything that these cars a know for going bad or some things i should check for before buying it.

    Any help is appreciated,
    Kyle.

You will find help with pretty much anything you need to know about a Grand Prix on this forum. The search function will be your biggest help.
Most of my questions have been answered many times over by people with waaay more knowledge and experience than I.
You will probably have to replace the upper and lower intake gaskets to keep the coolant from leaking. Might as well replace the coolant elbows as well and do the typical tune up stuff. Replace ALL fluids, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, seafoam it, injector cleaner, etc.

The only real weak spot on these cars, besides crappy gaskets, is the transmission. Make sure there is no hesitation or slipping in the gears. Check for play in the super charger snout and listen for any of the typical rattles and ticks that mean JUNK!
For the price you are paying it sounds like it may need quite a bit of work to certify. You usually get what you pay for.
I am from Newfoundland, Norris Arm, myself and I miss home dearly. Do whatever it takes to stay there and make a good living. Once you leave it is hard to get back. Good luck with the GTP.

Well i got it a few days ago, Picked it up for 300$. It really isn't a bad car at all. runs and ride great. Needs a wheel bearing, and rear strut mount. It has all new breaks, and brand new Eibach lowering springs. K&n filter. Only down fall i can see is that it needs rocker panels and a Valve cover gasket. Which is not bad at all seeing how i do mechanical and body work.

    Day i got it

and as it sits right now.
