I do not currently have a GP but am looking at getting one in the near future so hopefully I can get some good advice on what to look for and what to stay away from.

    welcome.

dont buy a 97 gt EVER, they are junk, because of there trannys.

buy 98+, if I were you, some of the 97's are either freaks of nature or complete duds.

try and find one iwth lower mileage if you can afford it.

when test driving and looking at the car, listen and look for normal signs of wear and tare on the car and parts.

Look at the LIM gaskets to see if they are leaking(common problem, easy fix, if you know how to work on a car)

Make sure to do a few WOT(wide open throttle) runs with the car to test each gear, signs of the motor bogging in or out.

Make sure you hit freeway speeds to make sure 4th gear works good.

do some low speed cornering to check for clunking and noises.
