I have loved these cars since back in the late 90s when I owned a 98 SS. I knew when I had kids later in life I would own one of these cars when that time came.

Well that time has arrived! I have a 4 yr old daughter & I paid my dues in a 95 Honda Civic. I loved my Honda cause of the gas milage it would get. I averaged right at 36 mpg City & Hwy combined on that car.

Thus when it came time to buy a new car with 4 doors. I was in the middle of what to get. My two choices where 99 thru 03 Acura TL as they could be had for $4000 to $6500! After reseach on the Acura TL I came to the conclusion that the Transmisson was the weak link in these cars & at $3000 to rebuild. I went to my second pick. The GTP, Of course these also have tranmisson problems after research. But after alot of shopping & looking at GTPs. I came across my 2001 GTP with 125,000 miles that was in MINT shape. Picked it up for $3500. Reason why I was sold on the GTP was reports of people getting close to 30 mpg on the hwy with their GTP & why I bought this GTP was it just had the trans rebuilt to the tune of $3000. So I knew I should be set.

Any suggestions on what I can tune to improve my Fuel Milage with this car?

Im excited about my new journey with my 2001 Pontiac GTP

Welcome. Yeah these big cars get pretty good gas mileage. I am 100% stock and I can get 33 mpgs on the freeway. Some people on here can get 34 and 35.

Some ways people get better milage is by replacing the fuel filter, getting a oil change and putting in new spark plugs. But your best best is to get a ubend delete to help with exhaust flow. That costs maybe 40 bucks at a exhaust shop. People also do a air intake. Use the search button to find the answers to most of your questions, there is a ton of info on this site.

Thanks for the warm welcome GTP Brothers.

Fivefinger. My GTP is exactly the same color as yours. Except I have chrome rims.

I am averaging right at 24 mpg. I do more Hwy driving then City & reading that you get 33mpg is making me wonder why I am not experiencing the same milage as you do.

I am going to replace & do the following to fix my milage problems

    Autolite 104 spark plugs
    Fuel Filter
    New Supercharger oil
    New Stock Spark Plug wires

I will have to look in to the U-Bend Delete. Can a exhaust shop just fab up a U-Bend delete & will it change the exhaust note of my GTP. I like my car to be quiet

Sweet, silver cars look so good.

Well I drive mainly city so my gas mileage is around 18-19 right now, but when I go up north to the cabin I get about 33 mpgs on the freeway.

Your somewhat mixed driving at 24 mpgs is pretty good. You are not always getting 24 mpgs if you know what I mean. Because when driving city you get bad mpgs and freeway you get good mpgs, so sometimes you are getting 30 freeway and 19 city and the computer will give you the avg. of 24.

As for what you have planned. I would not go with the 104's until you have mods to match. Just get 606's or something just like them.

    Here is you stock ubend:http://www.zzperformance.com/products_img/504_2.jpg

and here is what the exhaust shop could fab up:http://www.hoganperformance.com/ubd1.jpg
It should not change the note at all.

Here are a few links of things that can help you:
