    Hey there,

Just drove home my first GTP today. It's a 2002 Titanium colored fully loaded model with 90000 miles on it. It's practically all original (except the brakes of course) and requiring a set of struts (the roads are rough here) a couple of wheel bearings and a left front fender.

I consider myself a backyard do it your-selfer which explains the project car.

My first question is in regards to engine oil. The car has had conventional oil all its life with the second owner ( I am the third) and I personally have had the best luck running Castrol GTX with early oil changes on all my vehicles. I also use Black Label WIX filters religiously on eveything

What would be best for the Supercharger? Stick with a good conventional oil or go synthetic? The engine is super quiet and the previous owner ran 5W30 in it. We have the same kind of climate as Massachusetts / Upstate New York so the lighter weight oil hasnt had a negative impact on the engine that I can see.

With 90.000 miles on it I figure I am safe to go through with a change in oil type.

    Any suggestions out there?

    Thanks in advance

okay, so oil for the engine or the supercharger? the supercharger has a special oil. the oil from the engine does not lubricate the s/c they are separate. im not sure if that helps or what you were asking exactly?

Okay, I am starting to understand how GM has built this engine. If the S/C has an independant oil supply then how often should it be changed and how do I go about doing so?

some people go without ever changing it. not a good idea. in the gm manual it says to check it around 90,000 to see if its low and add some. i just completely changed mine. it will cost around 20 bucks. you can either order the oil online or pick it up from a gm dealer. i got my gtp with the same amount of miles and just changed the fluid. peace of mind. this might help.

Technically you are supposed to change it every 30k
