Hey guys, just bought my first grand prix. Its a black 1998 GTP 4door. I got it for $700 off of craigslist with a bad engine. The car is in pretty decent shape, but its getting a lot better as I clean it up. Its currently 100% stock and has about 250k miles on it. I don't know how well optioned these cars were, but it seems to have about everything other than a sunroof. Due to the bad engine, I haven't driven it but just playing with it in the garage, almost everything seems to work. There are a few broken plastics (cup holder, window switch, etc), but I think its all small things I'll be able to easily replace. I'm planning to eventually use this car as my daily driver.

    Started doing some cleaning...

Found a spare set of keys!

Also got the rear deck, seats, etc cleaned and put back.

Now, in the mean time, I managed to find a replacement engine. Its from a 2006 grand prix, but its a L26. I'll be using my top end parts on that engine block and hopefully getting her running by the summer. I'm probably going to have a lot of questions, but after browsing for a few days, there sure is a lot of information on this site! Thanks for the space, hopefully I can get this thing restored and back on the road!

Real nice job cleaning up the interior. Usually these engines out last everything else. Do you know what's wrong with it?

The current engine is knocking. As far as the new engine, from reading it seems like I'll need the gasket set from GM part number 89017824. It comes up as Head Gasket kit, but I'm not exactly sure whats included. I've read the top swap thread and I think I'm also going to need 2 orings 24501563 and a supercharger gasket 24503911. I was planning on keeping the rockers bolted to my current heads and just replacing the head bolts with some felpro ones purchased locally along with coolant elbows and whatever other basic maintenance items I made need. It sounds like the rest of my GTP engine parts are going to be fine to bolt on, with some possible clearancing to the oil pan.

Any one know whats included in the 89017824 kit? Any other major things I'm over looking using the 06 block?

NIce find on the key fob, it must of fell through the cup holder opening. I wonder how long it has been down there. Nice find on the car too!
