Ok, it wouldn't let me start a thread in transm. So I guess I'll post here.

I have a 2002 Grand Prix SE. 3.1 engine. 4 spd auto. For almost a year now I've had a "growling " noise up front. I replaced both front wheel bearings, both axles, new rotors and pads. Also rotated the tires front to back. Still have the noise. It's proportional to road speed. The faster I go, the louder the noise. It's not extremely loud, but its very noticable. Sometimes I can feel a very slight "shaking" in the front end. This happens when braking or not braking. I was wondering if the engine/trans mounts would cause this(if they were wore out). Could the engine/trans sag enough causing the axles to be at a bad enough angle to cause this "growling"? I wouldn't think a bad transaxle bearing/gear would last this long, but I may be wrong. Hope it's not the TRANSAXLE $$$OUCH$$$

Wow, that is a lot of parts to throw at it, and not fix it.

While the engine mount is not the first thing I would consider. I think it could very easily make the noise you described. I don't think from the CV angles being wrong. But rather from just letting the engine vibrate and move more than normal. If you need, I have an extra engine mount that I used for a couple thousand miles. I got it at Advance Auto and should still have the receipt for the lifetime warranty, if you are interested.

As for the transxle, I can't imagine that being the culprit. But just because, make sure you check your transmission fluid and that it is full.

Nice. My brother-in-law is dating a girl from there. So every now and then we end up in that area. Usually to hang out at the Wayside for wings.

The Wayside Inn is about 4 miles from my house.
I changed the trans fluid and filter 2 months ago. Still had the noise. The fluid was ok in color and smell and the filter and magnet weren't very dirty!!????.. It doesn't matter what gear I'm in or even if the engine is running. I still have this noise.

I think I might change the mounts any way because there is some play in them.

    Any other ideas?
