    Hello all
I have 98 gtp. Driving down road car dies but radio still works. Try to restart car starts sputters then dies hard. It is not fuel pump or fuel resistor or any fuses no vacuum leak. Think maybe a sensor like maf but not sure how to know if maf is bad. Also think could be ignition control module but do not know how to check that either. PLEASE HELP!!!! I have been w/o vehicle for 2 weeks

sounds like MAF, same kinda thing happened to me on my way home from school like 4 days ago, the car just never died. if it is, you should have a service engine soon light on, just find someone who can read the code. mass air flow is P0102. also, you'll get a lot more help if you post in the tech tips section or some of the engine descussion further down the page

Maybe a good idea to replace the fuel filter too.

I had an Olds Cutlass Ciera that did the same thing. Tested it by tapping on the sensor with the end of a screwdriver when the car was running to see if the car would shut down.

How do you know it is not the fuel pump? It could be a clogged fuel filter, a bad fuel pressure regulatror. These things alone do not give codes. A bad MAF, or lose hose going to it, would probably do it as soon as it starts, it would, or could give a code too.

Of course the radio will still work, you did not lose electrical power.

The issue could also be a bad ignition module or a bad ECM.

Without a code or light, it will be hard to diagnose over the internet.

Start by taking the MAF out and cleaning it. You can buy the cleaner from most local auto stores.
