Hello I just bought a 2000 grand prix gt 3.8 series II (not supercharged) and had few problems with this car but I put in money already. I have a few question about this vehicle problems and I hope somebody will help would really appreciate.
    1) I heard about the recall this car had and took it to the a pontiac dealer and have it replace the recall problem. Now my question is could any recall problem still could occur? Like for example the car getting on fired.
    2) I recently had the gaskets replaced because it had a few problems from engine oil leak and the car shaking alot. I took away from the mechanic and drove it for about 15 min than on my way home the car would accelerate by itself. Does any one knows why? What could be the problem?
    3) Is this a good decent car to drive around? What could be an estimate of miles this car could last up to? My GP GT has about 139k
Would really appreciate any 1 that helps thanks

how many miles is on how you drive it
the only recall i know about for the gt's is the spark plug wire channeling
btw why would it happen again if they fixed it lol
as for the car accelerating by itself is there anything in the engine bay that would be pulling on the accelerator? (unless your talking about when it moves at like 10mph)

and Welcome theres alot of good people and posts on the forums

Look at you throttlebody. It is right to the right of the upper intake manifold (the big black peice of plastic on the motor. On the back side of the throttle body to the firewall you will see a black brackt with 2 wire cables attached to it. Make sure these are attached correctly.

There is also a recall as of April 2009 for you Grand Prix GT. Basicly during hard breaking oil could end up on the exhaust manifold and result of a fire.

Well, for question number 3, yeah it should be a descent car for you to drive around for at least a few more years.. and 139k is nothin compared to some people on this forum. You should be able to hit 200k no problem with these engines if you take care of it. One guy had over 300k on his awhile back, look up the how many miles thread and check it out!
