Hello everyone I just joined the site because I love my 1995 gtp and right now I am having major problems and figured this would be the place to consult with.
Everybody I talk to just sighs and hums when I say I have a 3.4L dohc. No one wants to work on them, which I understand, because of their unreliability and bad rep. Also people around where I live have no answers for me with questions.
My Story:
I bought the car a little over two years because I am a Pontiac guy. Over time of course I had to replace parts which included: Waterpump/thermostat, starter, plugs/wires, plenium gasket, pulley belt, battery, mufflers, rear trailing arm, both front tie rods, usual brakework, front powersteering line, powersteering pump, AC bypass pulley(compressor seized up) and a rear wheelbarring. I also hit a raccoon and dmged my front clip and since have not been able to repair it properly. And my rear spoiler was ripped off, pretty much stolen. I gone thru alot and then my head gasket started leaking about 2 weeks ago. The week before I blew my water pump. The head gasket was fine since it was barely noticeable but then after I fixed the pump my Rear power steering high pressure line blew a 335.00 price tag at the dealer up here in canada. My luck has been crap.
Everyone has told me to get rid of my car as its just a money pit and "gm junk" to them. They dont understand that I love the roar of the 3.4dohc and the roomy interior im sure all of you know about obviously. There is something about this car that makes me not wanna get rid of it. I'm 22 years old and dont wanna have to buy a crappy sunfire or honda..or any four banger at that. I dislike rice and little cars.
What I'm asking really is what should I do? Buy a different car or spend the 1500$ I have to fix the engine and power steering line. I am also wondering if anyone knows what it would cost. I called dealerships to set a benchmark and their price is retarded( something like 1800$). I talked to few other guys( private shops )and they say like a $900.00 labour. The gasket kits were around 500 here also.
Thnx for reading.
