Hello everybody, I'm Chris. As you might be able to tell from my join date, I'm not new, but I also never really posted before, so I guess I am still new, lol. (I'm kinda quiet in real life too, going out with a group of people, I'll do a lot of listening, but not much speaking)

Anyways, I had a 2001 Monte Carlo SS, fully loaded, black with black interior. I got it used in 2004, and learned basically everything I know about cars from it. I had a lot of fun modifying it and repairing parts over the years. Some of what I did:
    - Modify stock airbox (then later replaced with a ZZPerformance Cold Air Intake)
    - SLP Catback Exhaust
    - ZZPerformance downpipe with catalytic converter
    - ZZPerformance Intake Insert
    - SLP Rocker Arms and Pushrods
    - SLP Front and Rear Sway Bars
    - Front and Rear Strut Tower Braces
    - Upgraded Trailing Arms
    - iPod adapter kit and bluetooth phone connector
    - Replaced Radiator
    - Replaced struts and brakes

I loved my Monte Carlo so much, unfortunately, December 2013 was a very bad luck month for me. At the time, I had my Monte Carlo, along with a Chevy Cruze for commuting, and a 2013 Camaro SS Convertible. And in December 2013, I had to make an insurance claim on all 3 of them. The Cruze got hit by a new driver at the mall, my Camaro had a basketball hoop fall on it, and my Monte Carlo got totaled.

I got into the Monte Carlo one evening, and turned the key. There was a very loud bang, and I noticed an orange flickering coming from under the hood. Got out, called 911, and I was fine, but the car was totaled. I was the talk of the neighborhood Christmas party though.

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of good knowledge on here, even for those who are familiar with the platform.

Sorry to hear your Monte went up in flames! It seems to usually be caused by a bad injector O-ring or leaking valve covers or valve cover gaskets. Strange it would happen on start up. Usually it would happen just sitting after being driven. I lost a white 97 GTP coupe due to fire as well.
