Just saying hi to the forums and kinda introducing myself. Years ago I used to own a really clean white 1996 Grand Prix GT and fell in love with it. Always had a love for the GP's ever since that car. Fast forward to now and I currently picked up a 2002 Grand Prix GTP 40th edition in pretty rough shape for rather cheap. I'm mostly pulling the engine and trans out of this car as a donor and figured I'd be using this forum the most to answer questions I had about the engine. Now I know it's a GTP but when I opened the hood there's something really big missing from the engine.......a friggin supercharger. I was scratching my head thinking, "Did they ever make a GTP model without a SC?" Even if the engine was swapped out I'm not out at all since I was going to take it down to the bare block anyway and switch it over to a turbo setup. I do know that the engine has a blown head gasket and its been sitting for a couple years so I'll have to see just how bad it is once I pull the motor. I'm also curious if it still has the HD trans in it from the GTP or if it was a full engine/trans swap. Won't know till I pull it out. If anyone knows where I can find the model markings on the trans that'd be greatly appreciated and save me some time finding it. I know this isn't the sales threads but eventually when I get some more pics of the car I'll post whatever's salvageable for sale so if there's something that's not engine/trans related that you're interested in just keep an eye out over there. Now that I think about it.....I forgot how to post pics on forums?

    Welcome

If you don't see the supercharger, is the intake manifold black plastic or aluminum? For a turbo setup the aluminum would be preferred, easy to find on almost any 3800 starting in 2004. For the trans, you could take a picture of the diff cover and we can usually tell if it's the HD or not based on the size of the cover. The two transmissions were the same except for gear ratio and HD diff. There are a couple other minor differences not worth mentioning as they don't change the strength of the transmissions.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I'll have to check on the manifold, I'm assuming it's the plastic one but I haven't taken the engine cover off yet to see for sure. Thanks for the tip on getting the aluminum one, I only ever saw the plastic ones and didn't know they made an aluminum version.
