    Well Hello Pontiac World...

My son was given a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT from his grandmother. Low miles, lots of options, great car. Recently, his friend, in a moment of idiocy, threw a rock that ended up hitting my sons car windshield. This car has the heads up display and as much as I have tried... I absolutely CANNOT find a replacement for this in our area. They are obsolete. I get it. I guess. One would tend to think they would be somewhat available, but no. Unless I drive hours away to a salvage yard.

Is it safe to use a replacement windshield WITHOUT the heads up display reflective portion? I have a friend who works for Safelite and he said he can get me one without the HUD but have been told by the dealership where the car was purchased years ago that this isn't a safe option.

Could really use some help... I don't want him continuing to drive around with a busted windshield.

And yes... It HAS to be a full replacement due to location and damage...

You can replace the windshield with the non-HUD option, the display on the windshield from the HUD will just be more distorted and it will look more blurry.

If you can, try and find a HUD windshield. But if you can't, a regualr one will work, just not as best.

I'd make that kids parents pay for the windshield .

It'll be fine with a regular widnshield.

There are have been many members that have installed a HUD unit on cars that never came with them from the factory.

    Thank you!

Oh- he's paying for it alright! With my insurance, it's only $50 or $100 but I'm not paying that!

Thank you! Do you know if there is an after market piece available to just add to the regular windshield?

the absolute only difference to the hud you will see is during the day, when your driving into the sun, the hud won't be as visible because of the glare. the "hud windshields" have an anti glare only in the area of the hud. Put in a "regular" windshield, you'll be fine. they arent any less "safe" that's bologna.
