    #04-07-30-013B: Info - Automatic Transmission

Soon (SES) Light On as a Result of the Use of an
    Excessively/Over-Oiled Aftermarket, Reusable Air
    Filter - (Feb 1, 2007)
    This bulletin is being revi
sed to add models and mode
    l years. Please discard
    Corporate Bulletin Number 04-07-30-013A (S
    ection 07 -- Transmission/Transaxle).
    The use of an excessively/ove
    r-oiled aftermarket,
reusable air filter may result in:
The oil that is used on these air filter elem
ents may be transferred onto the Mass Air Flow
(MAF) sensor causing contamination of the sens
or. As a result, the Grams per Second (GPS)
signal from the MAF may be low and any or al
l of the concerns listed above may occur.
When servicing a vehicle with any of these concer
ns, be sure to check fo
    r the presence of an
    aftermarket reusable, excessively
    /over- oiled air filter. The
    MAF, GPS reading should be
compared to a like vehicle with an OEM air box
and filter under the same driving conditions to
    verify the concern.
    The use of an aftermar
ket reusable air filter DOES NO
    T void the vehicle's warranty.
If an aftermarket reusable air f
ilter is used, technicians should inspect the MAF sensor element
and the air induction hose for contamination
of oil prior to making warranty repairs.

    DO THIS
    DON'T DO THIS
First, Inspect the vehicle for a

DO NOT repair MAF sensors under warranty if

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians,
NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these tech
    nicians of conditions that
may occur on some vehicles, or to provide in
formation that could assist in the proper
service of a vehicle. Properly trained t
    echnicians have the
equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job
properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assum
    e that the bulletin
applies to your vehicle, or that
your vehicle will have that condition. See yo
ur GM dealer for information on whether your veh
    icle may benefit from the
    information.
