It should be. Most of them were very similar inside, you just have to identify the wiring connector. Its usually either the wires like pictured above, or a ribbon cable.

Quick question. How much of the radio did you have to take apart to get the amp/cd cable? Did you only remove the faceplate?
Yup the faceplate has to come off, then the faceplate itself has to be separated only if you're mounting it inside it.
Alright got it. I want to go the yard tomorrow and pull some radios and see if I can find one without ribbon cable. I didn't know how far I had to take the radio apart to find out. Thanks.
Yup. I'm not sure how the theftlock works but keep that in mind.
That's a good point. I have unlocked a GM radio before.
Special phone # and code?
Yup, it's been a while, but had to do it years ago when my first GTP's battery went dead and I had to un LOC the radio.
I've done this a couple of times on both the ribbon style and individual wire style. Here is what I did on the ribbon style:

I cut the ribbon to separate the individual circuits and tapped off the right and left channels.

Then plugged it in.

I found a place to solder a wire into the right and left circuits.

I soldered into the right and left circuits on the bottom side of the radio board.

I installed the AUX jack just to the right of the EQ. I had to make the plastic face thinner with a dremel.

No modification of the circuitboard was required to get the AUX jack to fit in this location.

The finished product.
As a note, on both of the radios that I did the mod on the display bulb went out within a month or so. In the future I will replace the bulb during the mod. The bulb is available from GM. The part number is 16208443. Last time I checked it was cheaper to get it from your local dealer than from an online store (amazon, rockauto, etc).
Thanks for the info! it will help the people out with this style. My display bulb burned out as well when I did the mod, I've got the part # in the op too.
Curious, would that bulb number be the same for a 2002 bonneville?
Both bulbs in the bonnie are burnt out and see some fixin when it's warm out.
I'm not sure. I would think GM would use the same bulb since most of their radios are very similar inside. You'd have to take a look at it unless someone else knows, maybe look up the mod for Bonnevilles

Do you have to have a cd in for this to work?
http://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-ele...dapter-26.html post 505 and 507. guy used the radio wires
Looks like I will be doing this again on another radio.
On the t bird? Lol
That too, LOL The radio in my GTP just up and died out of no where. I have been driving the CS the past few days and I don't mind. Just too cold for a convertible and not enough snow for the AWD Escape.
Nah, for the T'bird I plan on buying on these, It's a few hundred bucks, but it will worth it.

Those are pretty cool. They make nice ones for mustangs too

This isn't my uncles mustang, wish it looked that good inside though
Not sure if you can see it, but the radio has the mustang emblem on it. It looks completely analog and am, but when turned on there's a digital FM display.
I installed my aux jack similarly, and I found that I physically needed a CD in the CD player for it to play. Not sure what I did differently than you.
I just keep a blank CD-R in my car for when I want to use my MP3 player.
