Ya, 12 or 13 quarts. 8 is far from "most", for me anyways.

We use litres. 1 quart = .94 litres, so basically the same. I've never put more than 7 litres, usually 6.25-6.5 litres.

Google led me to a page where a guy did a pan drop and had to put 10+ quarts in.

Thank goodness for the Trans go kit!! 04 GP started hard shifting recently mainly when going 1-2 and 2-3 shifts but also on an occasion from a dead start had the hesitating bump start,,took it to trans shop just to get it checked and of course it had the po1811 code and was told the usual "replace PCS switch and new valve body" $1200...used the TransGo kit and I cant believe the difference so far, not once has it had any shifting problems ....(but only been a month) of course I am sure posting this will jinx it!

Installed the TransGo shift kit about 2 months ago. Works great and car shifts real good!! I purchased the recommended Hose Retainer from RockAuto as suggested and installed it as well. When I received it, I thought they sent me the wrong part. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. So, below are 2 pics with the retainer installed for reference, for other guys looking to do this. Also, shipping costs more than the part, so order some brake pads or something else, lol.

Changed my fluid, filter and installed a TransGo today.
TransGo was easier to install that I thought it was going to be.
While cleaning out my drain pan I found a part. The THERMOSTATIC ELEMENT.
Looks like I'll be dropping the pan and filter again tomorrow.

TransGo has been in for a week now and I'm really happy with the results. Feels like a totally different car again. Quick smooth shifts. More enjoyable to drive now compared to the way it was.

Mines been in for little over two weeks, I'm happy with how it feels now, and it's given me more time to get all of the fancy hard parts that I want.

    Thanks John.

Looks like 2 weeks for mine too......That went by quick. 310 miles so far this week and still just over 1/4 tank remaining. I like it.

    I just filled up, lol.

Got a little more throttle happy since the kit, I had to test it a little. So I only got about 300 miles out of a full tank.

    Totally worth it, though.

I've had this in for a couple weeks now on my 05 GTP. Wasn't hard and the shifts are way better. It's even a little more enjoyable to drive with piece of mind. I ended up using DexIII with Lucas, and all's well.

There's a decent drain pan at Home Depot. It's almost like it was made just for this job (and costs $5) - http://www.homedepot.com/p/FloTool-L...80MI/205152444

I ordered a TransGo shift kit for my last Grand Prix ('06 base) and took it with me to the only two transmission shops in town the last time I needed to have the fluid serviced. The first place had a wait time of about a week, so, being impatient, I drove to the other shop without getting a quote from the first shop. I showed the guy at the second place the shift kit, he took one look and told me "we'll have to take the entire transmission apart and rebuild it from the ground up, so you're looking at close to $3000. Maybe wait on the shift kit until your tranny actually needs to be rebuilt."

I was a little bit flabbergasted... After all, it was this very thread that persuaded me to order the TransGo kit in the first place, and the OP made it look so easy!

Anyway, I needed a fluid flush anyway and since I was already there I let them do it... To the tune of $330. A couple weeks later I was in at my regular mechanic shop (who've told me they don't touch transmission stuff, they leave that to the shop that had a week-long wait list), and saw a sign on their wall saying their tranny flushes are $210. I was a bit pissed, and when I told the guy that he sort of laughed at me for going against their recommended place. I've learned my lesson.

Since then I've sold my '06 base and picked up an '07 GT because I always wanted the supercharged engine, but I have neither the tools nor the time to perform the shift kit operation myself, so what do you guys think a more reputable tranny shop would charge if I printed out the instructions in the first post, took it in, and said "do this"? $3000 and a total tranny rebuild is obviously complete bull****, and I won't be going back to National Transmission for anything ever again.

I'd say they should charge a little more than they would for a pan drop and fluid change. My local shop charges $130 for a pan drop, so I wouldnt pay more than $200... That being said the only tools you need are a jack and stands, a funnel, fluids, a pan, and an 8mm and 10mm socket... Its not that hard.

All you need is basic hand tools to do this, it's really easy. Have a friend come over, take your time, double check everything, and you'll be fine. Have you ever taken apart one of those clicking writing pens? Same basic idea but you are under a car, the springs are a bit bigger, and you'll smell like transmission fluid when you are done.

Hey, we just twisted a bolt off in the accumulator assembly, what is the spec on those bolts? Could I just put a bolt and nut through that one and torque it down?
