Water in floorboard (Take 2) - The Permanent Fix

I was having the same issue and picked up the replacement part from the dealership for $8. Thanks for the part number because the GM dealership had no idea what i was talking about and wanted to sell me the original rubber piece which cost more!

However... has anyone had issues with the drivers side getting wet? My carpet in the front drivers side is getting wet still and i ripped the carpet back and seen that its NOT coming in from the footwell area down the firewall by the pedals (it's also not coolant, its definitely water). So it must be originating from near the door somehow. I also checked the rubber plugs in the bottom of the floorboard and there still in nice and tight. Can anyone try and point me in the right direction on how to fix this?

Bad rubber around the door, or a leak through the moon roof?

I checked the sunroof drains and there both perfectly fine. I figured out where the water was coming from on both sides actually.

After putting in the replacement cowl under the hood I noticed a few days later that my passenger side got wet again. I also noticed that the water was coming from under the back seat. So I ripped up the carpet in the trunk to find that it was soaked and that you could see the water traveling down the passenger side back seat (some also went down the drivers side).

I've always had problems with water in the trunk and I had it fixed cause it was a bad weather seal and I also had to reseal the spoiler. Now I think water is getting in from either the tail lights or my strut towers since there rusting out. But the trunk is definitely where it was coming from all from the start cause the water left a nice trail down the back seat. Now to get it fixed somehow.... Suggestions?

id pull the back seats out, then shut the trunk/doors and have some one run a hose over the car, start low and work your way up with the hose till you see water inside the car/trunk. take the trunk liner out too, not much holds it in.

some how i bet your car smells rather bad of mildew, if so you can pull the whole rug, lay it out and buy a 5 lb box of baking soda, then dump it on the rug, top and bottom, rub it in good and let it sit a few days, then after its dry beat the baking soda out, then use a shop vac to remove the rest, ( dont use you home vacuum the bs will kill it) then rent or use a home carpet shampooer to clean it up. ( while its out of the car still. its much easier)

After I got my 2000 SE it rained and the spare tire was actually floating. The rubber washers on the spoiler were shot. The nuts have built on washers so I put RTV on the washers put them back on no more leaks. Just something else to check.

Our 03 Se had a floating spare tire once, figured it was from the spoiler, it finally stopped on its on though, one screw/bolt on the far right side is just spinning up in the spoiler and won't allow it to come out so therefore can't replace rubber washers, I've seen were people make it barely higher so it sits off the lid and water won't sit under the spoiler

Got my water deflectors in today, took longest on my 98 with the 1 piece and about 10 minutes on the 03 with a 2 piece, the only problem I'm having is my rubber on the outside is loose so I'm putting tape on the metal it sits on to make it tighter,now got to clean carpets in them so it won't stink like mildew and s#%t

a bead of rtv will hold that rubber trim on nice for ya.

Just finished the mod along with putting in an air filter. All fit well. Everything went smoothly. I did loose one of the screw in panel clips. Will the ones from the "help" section of autozone work? Seems like I got it done just in time weather man is calling for rain till Monday and my floor still hasn't dried out completely.

Mine on both cars are dry as a bone

I have a 2006 Grand Prix and will this deflector work for my model as well? I don't understand why my backseat passenger side has a wet floor like the front passenger floor as well. I would think that in order for this to take place the water would have to be at least 6" deep to reach the back. I'm replacing the entire carpet because it is rotted and falling apart. Any thoughts on why the back seat would be wet? I have no sun roof.

your best bet is to rip the seats outm lift the rug, up, then have some one hose the car down while you look for water.

could be the back window leaking. or the trunk.

That makes sense, I'm ordering a carpet kit and padding as well.

Do you know if the 06 Grand Prix uses the same deflector as the earlier body styles? The reason I ask is because I found them on eBay but when I plugged in my make and model the link said it wasn't compatible.

pretty sure the 04+ cars had the new deflector installed already, you can open the cowl and check it.

if you park on a hill, rear of the car down hill, the cowl could leak and fill the back seat foot wells, watch can travel front to back. you can lift the front carpet and see if the foam is wet there too.


if your rug is soaked its best to just take it out and let it dry, vac out what you can, rub baking soda on the foam to kill the stink, and drip dry it.


my car flooded a bit, i know this drill all to well. i used a 5 lb box of baking soda on my rug, then used a carpet shampooer before it went back in.
