Nice writeup. I just got done testing it out, and im hearing a little interference its not xm music or static its kind of a tapping sound. I connected the grounds of the rca's to the ground wire of the xm connector not the audio common wire of the xm connector.
Should i connect the audio common and ground wires? I thought it wouldnt make a difference..

yes, you need to ground on the audio common, if you still here the tapping, which will prolly go away when you change wire but you can ground the audio common to the xm box. but i would try moving the wire first of all.

idk what im doing wrong but I tried hooking it up and the first time the xm channel was stil going when i had my music playing. I was using the orange as negative(to audio common), and one of each red to left and right. what am i doing wrong? I took wire # 2, 3, and 10 from the connector. at one point when i was trying different wires the xm channel cut out and there was weird bass.

    any help is appreciated thanks.

    Brown: AUdio common
    Black: Left audio
    Strippedwire: Right audio

    Red: Presumed Positive
    Orange/yellow: Presumed Negative

And also the three wires you cut should never ever be hooked together 2 are posited and one is a ground. Looks like you have audio ccommon(-) to audio right (+).

all i did was cut off rca's. so the 3 wires that I cut don't get hooked back together? they just attach to the new cable into the harness then plug in? in the picture my audio common is connected to audio common bc i thought i had to connect the wire itself back after cutting it in order to attach to the rca wire.

For ex. Rca right was red and white. Left was yellow and white. Red and yellow are the left and rIght positive and the whites are common/ground just hook them together and then to the black white.

Obviously u didn't get a decent set of RCA's... using a set of cheap rcas LIke you have will only have different color ends. The internal wiring is usually the same colors for right and left so I wouldn't recommend them. I'd have to assume the yellow is the negative and red is positive on YOUR set of rcas. But follow the wiring I just posted above this.. there is no need to cut the factory wiring your just splicing onto them.

    Factory wiring colors

-They are at the rear xm receiver OR at the small plug on the back of your factory radio harness.

    -Green/white is right.
    -Brown/white is left.
    -Black/white is the common-ground.

well I just ruined a 25 ft rca to 3.5mm cable... at one point I had the right speaker working but that was it.
    So I need to:

Connect left to the entire wire of brown, connect right to entire green wire, and connect both negatives to the black ground? weird how I only had one side working, maybe it was because the rca wires were like 26 gauge...but where do i find better wires?

I'd really like to get this working but not exactly sure what I was doing wrong. I know the first time I had the wrong wires but after that I was using brown, black, and green. maybe it was my rca's? really sucks i ruined that cable cause the aux was high quality.
