Thread: How to Upgrade Reverse Lights to Cree Style LED's *PICS w/ Comparison*

I recently replaced my stock halogen reverse lights with some Cree style LED bulbs, for increased visibility and light output. Here's a write up on how to do it, with before and after pictures.

Step 1: Remove the taillight assembly (do one at a time) and take out the reverse light bulb.



Step 2: Take your new bulb.



Step 3: Push the new bulb into the socket as best you can. It is not an exact fit, so it will not click in like the stock bulb.

Step 4: With electrical tape, secure the new bulb into the socket as best you can so it won't fall out when driving. Cut around the parts that snap into place so it can still fit.



Step 5: Make sure the bulb is very secure. Push the socket into place on the taillight assembly (it should take some force).

Step 6: Re-install tail light assembly to car.

Step 7: Repeat from step 1 for other side.

Step 8: Make sure both bulbs are working correctly and enjoy your new reverse lights!

looks pretty good at night! i like it. only thing i don't like is having to rig the bulb for it to stay. what a let down.

Not doing this mod if i have to tape my bulbs to make them stay in ....

Yes, I wasn't aware that it wouldn't fit correctly until I was putting them in haha. BUT with the tape on there, they are MORE secure than the stock ones.

I think it's worth it, nothing wrong with a lil tape.

Yes there is you used the wrong kind of tape. It ain't fixed or secured unless it's duct tape. Get with the program.

gotta love the "slap it together and hope it holds" mod

I didn't "slap it together" its really secure... I couldn't pull it out of the socket if I tried.

the bulb doesnt click in, but it should fit more than snug enough to no fall out. either that or you used the wrong bulb.

I upgraded all the lights on my car with LED. They all clicked in and held properly. I like what you did for the light output, but connection wise I can only think of the heat from resistance of a bad connection.

There's no tape holding anything on da Regal.

I think its just poor manufacturing of the bulb... after all... ebay $13 for 2

Our reverse are L3156 so the bulb should work, and if made right, should snap in and hold on its own. Be sure to watch them, you don't want them to both go out from poor craftmanship (judging by how well it fits in the socket), and you go backing into someone, or get hit trying to back out because your reverse lights were crap.
