I don't think my problem is AC related, as I see the puddles after rainstorms. I still need to hit up the dealership for a new deflector and see if that works. I won't put in new carpet until then.

And even then I might not bother. The heat generated by the cat on the floor will keep my toes toasty this winter.

I didn't even bother buying a new deflector. i just cleaned mine up and secured it with some glue. Haven't had a problem since. My car (04) came with the in-cabin-filter. It was loaded with nasty stuff... so if yours has that, please make sure to replace it. Much longer and mine would have probably made me sick.

I tried using the original, but water just rolls right over it. No air filter in the 2000 GP. My '04 Impala had the leak, and I replaced the filter and reattached the deflector and it was fine. I'm TEMPTED to put a filter in my GP and just replace it every 6-12 months and use it kind of like a sponge.

On another note. I have something coming up that may be the permanent fix to the rubber seal, yet just as easy to remove if you need to get to the cabin air filter. You will be able to do away with the piece of rubber altogether and NEVER have to worry about it again. I will be test fitting one on my car very soon and will keep you all updated.

I have this problem, because everytime it rains hard you can see the line of water coming from under the passenger dash onto the floormat and its making my car stink. So all ihave to do is change my cabin filter ???

No, your cabin filter has nothing to do with the leak, although it's probably getting ruined soaking up water. It's the rubber seal directly above the filter that is the most common problem. It falls off or wears out allowing water to pour directly into your filter and blower housing. Normally it diverts the water around the opening.

Finally after 7 years of owning my car, I have fixed this issue!!!! Thanks a damn MILLION!!!! I have spend hours trying to trouble shoot this issue... And I just fixed it, and it works like a CHARM!!

Thansk a ton for the write up. I have been looking for a fix on the water leak of my son's 01 Grand Prix GT for a few months now and I think this will definetly take care of the problem. I will give it a shot this weekend and see how it comes out.

Thanks for such a Great Posting, I had a rain water leak with lots of water showing up on the passengers side floorboard, was able to remove 2 small and one large plastic retainer and lift up the cowl and held it up with a small block of wood to allow access to the rubber seal without removing the plastic cowl or any wipers, found seal/deflector off and laying loose, cleaned metal and rubber and applied RTV Sealer then reinstalled the seal/deflector, let dry for 15 min. then reassembled, the next good rain will be the test, I have a lot of faith in this fixing the problem, Thanks again for posting without it I wouldn't have known what to look for or how to fix it.

I picked up the deflector today but did not get the cowl retainters it looked like it came on part. 2004 grand prix will be puting in saturday. picked up cabin filter it was full of all kind of junk also black. I found the small seal on bottom in area of blower motor . thank you for the infor
