Raised Spoiler - Drainage Fix [*]

The Daytona Edition rear spoilers are real bad for collecting water and dirt on the trunk lid, so after searching through the other Raised Spoiler threads and not seeing any like mine I figured I would give some pics and I can update it as people have more questions.

Stuff I used:
10mm socket with universal joint and 10" extension on a ratchet
Thin bladed knife
Thick Gasket scraper
Plastic Knife
Duct tape
Simple Green
Goo Remover
Rubbing Compound
Touch up Paint
1/8" thick Nylon washers (5 of them)
3M Double Sided Foam tape

First pic here is how it looks when you first take it off. You can see the 3 studs that go through the trunk which are held on by 10mm nuts. You can also see the long strips of double sided tape that the factory uses to hold this on! That and the caked in dirt it is fun to get off without messing too much up. There are two black plastic plugs on the underside of the trunk lid, those are covering the side bolts and the center one is behind the latch. After taking the nuts off, I used the thin knife to gently cut the tape under the spoiler while using the gasket scraper like a wide pry bar to lift up. Be careful because this spoiler is just hollow plastic (weighs about 3 lbs).

Before spraying it down with Simple Green, I put Duct Tape on the inside of the trunk lid to cover the holes from the inside to keep as much out as I could. I got as much of the Double sided foam tape off as I could with this plastic tanto knife from Cold Steel, It worked great! A little warning is when you are washing down the trunk lid, leave the plastic plugs that were in the hole covering the side spoiler nuts. The duct tape leaked a little on me (to much pressure I guess) and when I opened the trunk lid all the water came out of those holes instead of the back drain holes and it got my trunk all wet on the inside.

Then I used Simple Green to cut away most of the dirt and junk, after that it was a spray goo remover to get the rest of the tape with the plastic knife.

After that I used rubbing compound to get the rest of the stains off and the touch up paint was for the scratches I put on the trunk lid while taking it off. Then I put the 3M Double Sided Foam tape on both sides of the 1/8" thick washers and put them where I wanted them on the spoiler. I did them at the studs and on the ends to give it some stability out there.

Here is a close up of the spacers with the tape on them, the red plastic just covers the sticky side of the tape. You can see that 1/8" is as thick as you would want to go with these studs or there will not be enough to thread the nut onto them.

Here is the pics of it all installed and tighten down. You have to be just at the right angle to even see that there is a gap there, it still looks stock but no more water and mud build up!

Thanks for this thread. My wife's '01 was filthy underneath, so I cleaned, waxed under there and used some thin washers to raise it up enough to drain.

Bad design. Good solution.

glad to see people are still using this... after i learned about it, i ripped mine off and was so disappointed in GM!

I did mine tonight. My spoiler has only been for roughly a month so no problems underneath it. How did you clear your tails btw? Cut them open ??? I'm still slowly working on my spare set

Bringing back an old thread what washers are those and how did everything hold up and how was the seal?

I just used 1/8" thick plastic washers I picked up at the local hardware store and everything is holding up fine for me, no leaks and stays cleaner...

I busted out the red lens years ago, some people use red coated bulbs but after all that work, I did not want to see any more red...lol. So I have LED bulbs that are clear when off and then light up red.
