Many have told me they struggle when trying to install the newer replacement snout seals you get from Eaton or ZZP for example. Many rip, or damage the seal, which can happen easily if your forcing it to do something it can not. These newer seals are not as easy as the original Viton seals.
Here is a little GR8racingfool trick of the trade I thought I would share with the D.I.Y. guys out there who are capable of preforming this service them selves, but cannot quite grasp the tricky installment of this style seal. Its been requested by many-many emails and PM's asking how do I do this, you ask, I listen, and I help.
The seal at hand:
What you do is use a socket, about the same exact size as your snout shaft, but a littler smaller. For this how to, I am using a Craftsman 9/16" deep socket. Different makes or brands may very so check and compare before you do any "socket work".
A M90 snout shaft measures .781.5" to .782"
My 9/16" Craftsman socket has an O.D. measurement of .769
So as you can see the socket is under sized, so it it not to over stretch the inner foam seal, so when installed, it will still have a very snug, tight fit on the snout shaft.
So, install your socket into the seal:
Set your socket onto the snout shaft:
And simply slide the seal down over the snout shaft:
Then install the seal the rest of the way, and install the seal retainer, and your good to go.
