All of the posts online said to just pull the buttons and work with the minuscule amount of wiring. The easiest way to do it is to pull the air bag and release some of the wiring behind it to have more slack. It honestly took me about 5 minutes to pull the airbag after watching this youtube video ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fniMDfwiKOg

You do not need to loosen the torque screws on the back cover but simply twist a screw driver in each slot to release the poles on the air bag. I did one side at a time just like the guy in the video. It's easiest to rotate the wheel as it is pictured to get at the tabs. Once you pop the air bag off you can release the extra slack from the harness to pull the buttons out easier. I used buttons from a Pontiac Montana with out the dimples and they work flawlessly. $5 junkyard pick of the week!
