I have a 96 with a power sun roof that quit while its still open. Does anyone know if I can manually close the roof until I can figure out whats wrong.

Some motors have a slot for a tool like an allen wrench, and you can crank it closed. I just got my car so I can't speak as to if it does or not. The problem is getting to the motor. The headliner, part of it, or the headliner rubber trim must be pulled down but beyond that I am not sure what if anything else needs to be removed to get to the motor.

Before you do that, I would try hitting the headliner with your hand, hoping the vibration will get the motor to work again and close. The theory is the motor has hit a dead spot and the vibration will get it to move past the dead spot.

You can also try removing the rubber headliner trim around the roof opening. It should just pull off. Take the end of a screwdriver and tap with it on any metal parts. This will also allow you to try and find the motor, which is usually towards the front of the car.

I think all roof motors should have an access plug to crank it closed, but I guess people feel the failure rate is too low for that.

    Check fuses sure.

Pull on it if you want to break it.

Forgot to add, if you suspect the switch, and most do not really fail, you can remove and unplug it, and then take a paper clip and jump the two terminals and close it. There are probably two, or three wires going to the switch. If three, then one is open, one is close and the last is a ground. As far as what color the wires are, or what two def are the two you need, I do not know.

Toolguy, Your correct, I already pulled out the switch and there are 3 wires..... the middle is power and the 2 outside are open and close grounds. When I jumped the wires all I heard was "click". I would guess that its my motor gone bad. Since the roof is open, I would like to get it closed first then I can replace the motor later, but I can't get the darn thing closed manually. Thanks again guys for your help!!
