    Has anyone done a rebuild on a P-steering rack. I have an 01 Grand prix that the rack is leaking like a sieve. Thinking about a rebuild kit.

    Common, just go buy a new one/reman from the store. Easier.

    Don't forget to check if you have Magansteer or not. If you look down at the rack where it connects to the steering and see an electrical plug coming from the rack to a plug on top of the trans near the shift cable then you have Magnasteer. I think the RPO code if you look on the trunk sticker is NV7.

    Ive done Cardone racks from Oreillys twice. Take the rack out 1st then bring it in and get the new one, IIRC the damn core charge costs nearly as much as the part does!

    Edit twice as in 2 different cars. Ive had 7 wbodies...........

    Not 2 in the same car or I wouldn't recommend cardone parts LOL!
    How I treat my car: wreck,fix, repeat.

    @MyNameBlows -- 7!! now that's dedication!!!

    I will probably get it at AutoZone, lifetime warranty and it's very close.

    try advace auto on line, add a discount code for cash off, then pick up local in 30 minutes.

    I have had really bad luck with all of the rebuilt racks i have installed. They usually end up leaking in a year or two. I recommend getting a used OE rack and install it. Im most cases it will last longer and most likely be cheaper.

    Thanks everyone...I feel both relieved and stupid. Relieved that I don't have to put a new rack in, and stupid that I boneheaded getting the pressure line on the power steering pump tightened all the way. It's fixed now though!
