I am trying to figure out if I need a headlight switch or multi function switch.

My door chime goes off constantly until you close the door. When the headlights are switched on, the cluster, radio, and heater control lights are not illuminated. Also, the parking lamps and taillights do not come on either.

The little orange light for the foglight switch doesn't illuminate, and the foglights don't turn on.

    Any ideas?

    Ignition switch maybe.

Lots of things are going wrong and that wire harness is a big player.

Maybe the headlight switch? Mines caused so much headache when it decided not to work anymore.

Also do you have Leds in your headlights or tails?

Check your fuses. The parking lights and dash lights are on the same circuit

1998. I'm about to hit up the junkyard and see if they have a gp in there, which they should. Everywhere I called wants $170-$190 for the part. Forget that.

Well getting a used one will most likely give you the same problem sooner or later. It's a common failure

At this point, I'd rather spend $5-$20 for one or a few than $190. I don't really have it at the moment.

Of all the work I've done...I've never replaced a headlight switch on a GP. I also never worked retail and sold them. So you might know something I don't.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I thought that's what you were saying. My bad. Multifuction switches are replaced often and that goes for several late 90s early 00s GMs.

The ignition switch is also a big problem on these cars. You may not have all the symptoms of a faulty ignition switch but I'm sure that's what it is.

If you are lucky, you might be able to find an ignition switch that's already been replaced in the JY.

Well, I went and got 4 headlight switches from the junkyard. Neither of them fixed the problem.

Where is that located? I may have to go back and grab one. They had a handful of grand prixs there.

It's the lever/stalk that controls the high beams, wipers, cruise control
