I need to replace my front driver-side wheel bearing hub. I have noticed on rock auto that diff hubs have diff torque specification some don't state a torque specification at all. Any suggestions? I have read of diff things as far torque.

Also do I need new hub bearing bolts and torque them as well? I was thinking to get dorman for about $65, but they have a few for 35 bucks etc...

The bolts that bolt into the hub itself do not need to be replaced. The spec is german, so "good n tight".

The axle nut is 118 ft lbs.

A few did say 159 maybe I'll go with about 135ish lol. Honestly I know a few people who have went through quite a few hubs for this very reason.

The cheap ones last two years or less depending on how much driving you do.

Personally.. I moog'd it at my local parts store for the 3 year warranty. You have a W body.. it'll eat hubs. Might as well have the old one in the box ready to be refreshed for free.

Also.. never buy without a discount code if at Advance (Retailmenot.com)
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I've done two SKF torqued to 159, and 2 SKF torqued to 118. All 4 bearings failed within 2 years. I am now a few months into a Delco torqued to 118; I should be replacing it in a year or so.

Yeah I see these cars do eat the bearings no matter what. I found a dorman hub, on rock auto that's suppose to be limited lifetime warranty.. the only one I could find that was warrantied that way. Just letting you guys know....

I always just made them as tight as I could with a breaker bar, I've had the same luck as everyone on here, new ones every few years.

I have torqued the axle nut on new Moog front bearings to 148lbs and they only lasted 20,000 miles. Now, I try and find any used ones from scrap GP's and just make sure I tighten the axle nut to around 148lbs. I don't believe the torque spec means anything.

The correct torque probably makes them last 20,000 miles instead of 19,999 miles.
