I have a 2000 GT with dual controls. 130k miles. The car is new to me and had a bunch of problems that I have been slowly mowing down. Now I am on the temp control/blend door/actuator guessing game. I started out with hot air coming out the pass side no matter what so I swapped out the blend door actuator, watched it move etc. At that time the drivers side was working OK. Then I worked on the car some more to fix other chit (had the batt disconnected for more than 30 min) and now the pass side is back to it's old tricks and the drivers side is also staying warm when I have asked for cold.

I'm beginning to think that either I have a bad control unit or that I didn't know that you have to re-teach the control unit if you swap out actuators. So I tried to search for this question and there's nothing obvious so I thought I would ask it straight up:

Does the HVAC control unit and/or any other brain in the car associated with temperature control need to re-learn where the flap doors are? If so, how do they re-learn? Is it the battery thing or do they test themselves every time the car fires up? Thanks for any replies!
