This may not be exactly the subject here, but, i am wanting to know what the term "VCI" means - relating the the vehicles programming - could it be "Virtual Channel Identifier" or maybe "Virtual Channel Identification" or even "Vehicle Cone Index".
Am wanting to know the ramifications of changing the VIN number of the vehicle "electronically only" so I can install some options that require additional codes than what came with the vehicle.......
So, am I nuts, or is that doable???????

First, sorry if this has already been asked, but I searched and found nothing.
I did this 3-button to 5-button DIC mod on a 04 GP that had ~ 80k miles on it. The 5-button DIC had under 10 miles on it when I installed it.
Still have the 3-button DIC hidden away racking up miles. As far as I know it matches the BCM. The 5-button has over 12k miles now.
Question - how can I get the 5-button DIC odometer updated (reprogrammed) to match the BCM as well?
Right now I always take the 5-button out and put the 3-button back in when I take it in for oil changes. I don't want the service records to show the lower mileage because some database somewhere might show this as a rollback of the odometer.
I'd like to get the 5-button mileage to match the car's actual mileage so I can stop doing the swaps.
I talked with the service manager at my local GM dealership. Said he would research it and get back to me. That was over 3 moths ago...
only a dealer can program the BCM, that was the problem i had when the BCM went bad in my blazer.
FYI - for anyone wanting to try this upgrade, I just listed a 5-button DIC on ebay. Item 270586810357. It has worked well, but I'm planning to sell the car and I'm putting the original DIC back in the dash.
I was told by GM that only a "virgin" odometer can be programmed by a Tech II programmer to a set mileage. Once an odometer sees it's first BCM signals to start recording mileage, it locks out the setting mode and can no longer be reset by a Tech II. Makes sense if you think about it - an dealership could roll back mileage on every used car on the lot.
There are a couple of specialty reprogramming shops that you can google. There are a couple certified by GM (probably some government regulation too) to be able to set a specific mileage in a non - virgin odometer. They are pricey though - over $200 bucks for the programming plus shipping. I decided to use the second DIC behind the 5 button, and swap as needed.
