I have acquired a set of beehive springs that have a blue stripe on them that look very similar to the yellow springs. I am curious if they are the same spring or which one I should use. I have a set of the blue stripe and a set of the full yellow painted springs

I am putting on my gen 5 top swap top, 2007 n/a block, stock cam, stock everything. However in the near future I will be planning on upgrading the rockers I believe to either 1.8 or 1.9, so I would like to upgrade the springs while I've got the heads off because the rockers are easy to do with the engine together.

I would also like to know if it is ok to run the stock retainers and clips. I have read in many places that it's OK and it's not okay, but many of the threads that I found were from the early to mid 2000 and some of them were newer like 2013 or so. I could not find a definitive answer one way or the other for the stock retainers and stock clips.

    Edit to add pic...

You need modified LS retainers. Can you post pics of springs? I have some I know for sure is, I just need to dig them up, then i could give you my guess.

The stock retainers won't work out well. They preload the LS springs by .080" for starters. Spend the $35 and get Intense retainers. Why not L76 springs? Your timing dampener will thank you.

these just happen to be part of a box of stuff I bought from a guy on Craigslist, so that's why I didn't get the l76 Springs. I won't be running a kim in the car, that's why I assumed the stock retainers would be fine, if that's not the case then I'll just have to buy the right springs, retainers, and clips.

I can post pictures of them, I just need to get out to the garage and grab them out of the box and upload them. Give me a few minutes. But they look just like these, but the blue stripe doesn't go all the way up on the spring and it's light blue.

You can reuse your stock locks, but you want at least LS retainers. The Intense retainers are basically the same price as LS retainers. You'll want a magnet on a stick, makes getting the locks out a lot easier. Might as well do Viton valve seals while you are that far in there, too.

Here are the ones I have. Come to think, they may not even be stock ls6, maybe aftermarket ls6 springs????

L76s, yellows have too much spring rate.

No you still need the LS still retainers unless your keeping stock springs. It's $20-25 just spend the coin.

The stock retainer should never be used with an LS spring, at all. ever.

the reason you cant use the stock retainers is that the installed hight of the stock retainers is like .100" less then with the ls retainers among other things. just dont do it!

    ^^^^ .080" That's what I was talking about above.

    Things like this happen:
Retros, LEDs, SD Hood GMPP, Votland, Addco
06+ Impala brakes, L76 Springs, ERs, Self-Tuned, 3.5 Gen V L32, Ported TB, 240a CS144, SSAC, Upgraded Transmission, Android Head Unit, Remote stuff, GXP Seats
