I was just wondering how chronic is the blower resistor dying in the 04+ GPs?
And has anyone used the capacitor across the power and ground of the control module?

I thought it was more of a 97-03 thing. Well regardless I had to replace mine today.
The blower started oscillating before the complete nothing.

Damn thing died during a snowfall.
I tested the blower with a computer supply and it worked.
Off to Oreillys for a resistor $62.00 and blower $81.00. All it took was the resistor, big Yea.

The original blower is stamped....Dong Jin..made in Korea

IIRC the B/M resistor was an issue on the 04 year too. Not so much after that year. There is TSBs about it on Alldata

This link shows the TSB and diagrams of the pinout for the resistor. Plus the part # for the capacitor.

    http://www.justanswer.com/car/3yey9-...-shut-off.html

    Amazon has the capacitor..........http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Kinda wondering if I should install it for insurance.

Well it wasn't the resistor because it funked out again today.

A small thump with the fist under the ignition on the corner where the fan speed knob is, started it.
Back to a pulsing fan speed. The speeds do work. Sometimes smooth and sometimes not.
It has a weird noise at times like there is a twig in the blower....somewhat of a motorboat sound. More prevalent on the defrost/floor setting.

I haven't worked on the car at all to cause this.
Any 04+ guys had a problem similar?

Is there any water falling onto the motor from those defective cowls?

Nope I have had the revised cowl insert for the last few years. Who knows what happened before.
I did notice the old cabin filter was bowled sagging like it probably had gotten wet at some point.

When I changed the resistor, I cleaned the blower cage and noticed it would take a LOT of water to get past the motor shroud set-up
I ordered a blower motor last night to add to my shotgun cabinet, supposed to be here tomorrow.
    It worked fine today...wtf

All the problems from various other places have wildly different scenarios.
Resistor, blower motor, HVAC control or ignition switch....plus the wire issues involved with no rhyme or reason.
    Regardless I'll post updates

Smack the dash! Well, don't use your fist if you can help it. I know when I got my first FWD GP, a 99, the blower motor was rusty and inop. It drove the price down. Once I realized I could see through to the carpet from outside the car, I knew I needed something but ddn't know about the 97-03 cowl revision. I just put a CAF in it and went on. Only got wet if i parked uphill.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

My 04 if I hit a good bump dies then come back some times if a door is slammed wrong it makes it stop so ill reach under and smack it get it working again I found that the water (be rain, melted snow, car wash ect...) gets in under the plastic right at bottom windshield on passenger side and leaks into cabin air filter then goes down to blower motor and id have a pond on passenger floor board I could swim in seriously there was standing water after a few good summer rains so I got window gasket black goop stuff sealed it good and no more problems other then blower going out but that's cause water damage and I have had to replace my resister once cause water damage
04 GT2: 180 t-stat, cold air intake, reptile tune, plog, hv3, gt1 cam, 90#springs, new push rods, new lifters, port polished heads, lim, uim and tb, 06 Impala brakes and steel brake lines. Cosmetic: black roof rails, under glow, Pontiac ground light, blue hud dic radio controls and cluster. To come custom hood.

This time taking things apart I actually looked at the shroud.I was in a hellfire hurry the first time to get my son home in a snowfall.
It definitely had been holding water in the past. I looked up in the blow hole, there is no sign of water entry.
I'm thinking the motor finally corroded enough to not work properly.
But...at this point this all speculation.

I did test old VS new before I installed the new one.
The new seemed to have more snot and the old one had the old electric motor pulsing.
