While I'm fixing all the issues on this GP, I am revisiting this old one. Since I've had the car, the passenger side door does not stay open. There is no resistance in the passenger door hinge at the med and wide open positions, so the door will swing shut. I noticed today that the spring on the passenger side is on the BOTTOM, but the spring on the drivers side is on the TOP. This doesn't look right. The spring is never in contact with the hinge mechanism so it offers no resistance. I took a few pictures.

I think what happened was the car was in an accident before I owned it, and the body shop installed the hinges incorrectly. Can someone take a picture of your passenger door hinges and post for comparison?

This is the lower hinge on the passenger side front door of my 4 door 00 GP GT, and yes it keeps the door open to a point:

Pardon the dirt, I was in the process of cleaning the doors up...lol. This is the lower hinge on the passenger side on my '97 2 door GTP. What I can see between the 3 pics is the fact that the "arm" that goes between your spring and that post that sticks up from the top of the hinge (sorry, don't know the proper name for it) is more worn than either of ours. Maybe that has something to do with it? My door opens and shuts properly and stays put in both the middle and wide open positions.

The orientation is different because its on opposite sides of the car. They use the same part, just flip it depending what side its on. I think that pin that the bracket positive locks into is supposed to roll as the bracket slides on it. Yours probably rusted in place which caused the bracket to grind on it as you open/close the door which eventually ground enough off that it won't hold the door.

My 2000 GT driver's side had the same problem. I soaked the pivot point with a penetrating oil such as PB Blaster. It should free up but may take a few days of repeat applications. Make sure you do the same to the roller that contacts the detent bar so that it will rotate. When it's freed up use a good lubricating grease. Repeat every few months.

Yep this is what I did. PB Blaster and banged on it with a hammer. Freed it up enough to actual make contact with the roller. I soaked it all with white lithium grease. Will revisit in a few weeks with more PB Blaster/hammer.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and photos.
