I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix with manual HVAC dual climate control. A couple months ago, I noticed that speed 1 & 2 went out on my heat/AC blower control. a few weeks later, speed 3 went out and recently speed 4 went out, leaving me only with speed 5. Also, when the fan is turned on for speeds 1-4, the automatic headlights don't work, the headlights will only function in manual mode or if the fan is turned off, or on speed 5. I have replaced the resistor with a new updated one and I still have the same problem. I replaced the HVAC control switch and still the problem is there only works on speed 5. any ideas? is there a relay that controls the fan speed 1-4?

    Ignition switch.

I'd put my money on that.

That is definitely the ignition switch. Same exact thing happened to the wife's car.

    Ok, thanks
I have checked out the pricing for a new switch, doesn't seem too bad.. Now, how hard is it to replace, is this something a home mechanic can do or do I have to take it to the shop? anyone have replacement instructions or a youtube link?

Wife used this as a reference as well. She was very happy and proud after the install and had no issues lol.

Rockauto had the cheapest price for the switch when I did one.

Like 77 bucks or something and it was a OEM AC Delco part.

Yea but was it revised in anyway? Sam got hers from AAP , which is the Borg warner line, and it had thicker wires and 1 other revised thing too

Wouldnt that be the blower motor resistor? Only working on 5??

Typically yes it would be the resistor, but because of the OP's statement right here " Also, when the fan is turned on for speeds 1-4, the automatic headlights don't work, the headlights will only function in manual mode or if the fan is turned off, or on speed 5. I have replaced the resistor with a new updated one and I still have the same problem. I replaced the HVAC control switch and still the problem is there only works on speed 5."

He already replaced the blower resistor and HVAC switch. Plus the headlight issue as well. The blower resistor going bad does not have a direct effect on the autolamps usually, but everything being tied to the ignition switch would.

Thank you everyone. I ordered the Ignition switch and should have it by the weekend. SO, I guess that will be the weekend project. After reading various posts on this subject, I'm pretty confident this should fix the problem. As I previously stated the blower switch initally only worked on speed 3-5, then gradually, speed 3 went out, then speed 4, leaving me with only speed 5. I replaced the resistor and then swapped out the HVAC controller, both had no effect. So, by process of elimination, that would leave the ignition switch or the blower itself.
