Crap. So been having steering problems. Changed the lines, pump, and rack. Just finished the pump yesterday and drove the car and makes a horrible whining noise. Thought is was more steering issues but the car drives like a dream. Noise increases with rpm's and also increased with turning the wheel.

The tension pulley was a little rough so I thought this was the noise. I was proudly showing my daughter my diagnosis. Took the belts off and spun the pulleys to show her how smart I was. Both tensioner pullers were silent. So I started spinning everything else. Guess what. The water pump, less than a year old, is making the noise. Darn it. But the life time warranty from Autozone helps.

Guess what I am doing tomorrow. Hope I remember how. Anyway. Last time I broke a bolt holding the pump in place. I found similar bolts at sears, just not as long. Would it be wise to replace the bolts? On Sun can not get OEM parts and daughter needs the car Monday.

Should I get a free replacement from Autozone or go with a better one? I seem to be having issues with autozone parts lately. First power steering pump was bad and now in less than a year the water pump is gone.

a water pump is like 40 bucks, right? thats something you don't want to have to keep replacing. so if you can, like with magic or something, find one that isn't going to fail, get that. i think they will give you the cash back on refund if you don't want to exchange it. if not, eat the 40 and get one that will work.

and i bet you'll be fine with a short bolt or two. better than no bolt or broken bolt in the block. seen that work before with some gasket sealer. and it was only a five bolt water pump.

i got a duralast w/p its like 4 years old, no issues to date. and their p/s pump, both still work fine.

rebuilt parts do tend to fail early sometimes.

FWIW the 13mm bolts are 13 ft lbs and the 10mm bolts should be 10 ft lbs IIRC. Overall..not a lot of force.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
