OK, please keep in mind, this is a 1992 LE.
The blower motor just started acting up. I'm in northern Wisconsin. Gets quite cold here. Let me explain exactly what it's doing.
With a cold car and engine, I push in the defrost button, move the fan speed button to light level 4 (high) and let it warm up. At this point the blower is working fine. Slowly but surely (within 5 mins) the fan speed drops lower and lower to the point of barely blowing. You can hear the motor struggling to stay on. Here's where it gets interesting. A good smack to the outside blower case, wiggling the electrical connector, and tugging on the motor would all make the blower briefly kick back up. But only for about 10 seconds and down it would go again. While driving the car it would go up and down.
Here's where I'm at. I pulled the blower out and would like to get some advice before proceeding with buying any parts. I've seen over and over that it's probably the resistors. I'm curious to know if it sounds like somthing else. Like a relay, bad connection or other component.
I want to add that after pulling the motor, I reconnected it and turned it on. It had full power. So the motor is fine. One final thing that would be of great help would be a wiring schematic of the blower system for the '92 model. A basic .jpg or .pdf file would work.
Thanks very much for any help. BILL

Well, I had to figure it out myself. It was definately the resistor assembly. None of the actual resistor coils were broken, the thing was just fried causing the blower to run erratically. Reinstallation of the blower caused a whole new problem though.
While directing it back into the hole, the plastic fan cracked at the top in 2 places. Not knowing any better, I installed it with the cracks. **NEVER DO THIS!** With everything put back together, I turned the fan on. It made a real loud noise and broke in 3 pieces. It also caused 2 of the 3 small securing bolts to strip out. What a huge mistake! The blower was trash now causing me to pick up another one at the junk yard. On top of that, I wasn't able to recover a 2 inch piece of the broken fan that broke off in the venting somwhere. Trying to find it would mean pulling apart every part of the vent system under the dash. I chose to leave it in. (suggestions welcome)
I plan on taking it to the local GM dealer and pay the labor costs to install the blower correctly by a mechanic.
My biggest worry is the broken piece of fan coming back through the vents and destroying the new blower fan. Or when it's that far in can I just leave it?
I plan on bringing it to the dealership mechanic in about 2 weeks from this post date. Suggestions are severely needed.
    Thanks members. BILL

Got the blower back in (myself) and it's working perfectly. It's nice to have heat and defrost again. I was a bit surprised that no site members offered me any advice.
In any case, since I diagnosed and fixed the problem completely by myself, I'm up to answering any questions about older model GP blower problems.
