My ABS and TCS lights come on everyonce in a while. I can be driving along and everything will be fine but then the lights will turn on and my ABS and TCS will not work anymore. When they lights are off, everything works fine. I read about a wheel hub sensor but I am not convinced that could be it. It turns off and on randomly.

    Any ideas?

Wheel bearing most likely as the sensor for the ABS system is integrated in the wheel bearing and its not terribly uncommon for them to go intermittent before going completely bad.

Just fixed mine last month. Wheel bearing. The interesting part is figuring out which one. Mine happend to be the right rear. You need to scan the ABS system with a special scanner. I picked up the actron for about $100 on ebay.

Do share with which one you picked up, for that I could get myself one for use around here.

It is the Actron 9449. I called the dealership, and they wanted $100, so it was a no brainer. Super easy to use! It took about 10 seconds to plug it in and for it to tell me that the Right Rear was bad.

Jester331GT - What year Grand Prix did the Actron work on ? As I read the compatibility document it looks like it only works on the 2004 + Grand Prix's. If it works on a 2001 I'd buy one as I have the same ABS/ Trac light issue and the local shop want 50-60 bucks to read the code for me. Thanks!

If it is a bad hub (which it sounds like) do yourself a favor and get a good quality one. When I had one go out on my old car (impala), I put a fairly cheap one in....didn't even last a year. I heard Timken are pretty good...

My wifes is an 05 Gomp G. It is limited to year/models a sof now, and as far as I know, there is not an update for it yet. I'll plug it in and try to update it tomorrow to see if Acton has added any years.

For an ABS scanner that is not bad at all. The dealership charges that just to scan it.
