So I owned this car for a few months and then I sister bought it off me 2 months ago. Well yesterday she drove about 15 minutes from my house back to her apartment with no problems. About a half hour later she decided to go to the store. However when she went to go start the car nothing happened. She says that all she notices when she turns the keys is that the brake light comes on and the headlights shut off no noises. The interior lights do not dim. What could the problem be?

dead starter maybe, try beating it with a hammer while the key is turned and held to start. or a starter relay maybe.

or try jumping the starter with a screw driver.

How do you jump the starter? I was looking around in here on how to do that and couldn't find anything

like thism but the you dont need the jumper cables cause its hooked up to the battery. key to run, if the starter cranks it will start up.

Or the battery is toast if everything shuts off and no noises happen, but first try the starter.

most of the time you get a click, or click click click if the battery is dead, nothing if its stone dead. the key would be stuck on if it was dead.

The thing is all the interior lights stay on and the battery is three months old. I'll start with the starter and go from there

check the battery is clean and tight, as well as the neg cable to the trans, and the pos cable to the starter.

if it wont jump, get the hammer out, and toss it a few good shots to the body of the starter, aka the fat part.

Tried doing the screwdriver test but I couldn't get it to work. I gave the starter a few solid taps and then when I went to start it would give one loud click from the starter and that was it. Kept knocking on the starter but nothing. I tried to start it about five times after I stopped knocking on it and now the starter doesn't click any more. Ideas?

did you have someone holding the key to start while beating it? if not add that.

taps dont work, hit that f ing thing. you wont break it.

the screw driver, you just bridge the large post with the red cable on it to the smaller terminal with the wires on it.

sounds like a bad starter if it clicked, then stopped clicking.

Yes I had my sister holding the key while I did it and at first I was just smacking it but then I turned up the heat after not getting any results.

try the screw driver again. if it just sparks and dont crank the starter is locked up or the solenoid is bad. the part with the wires on it,,,most dont know, but you can change just that part.

if it comes to it, take the starter off, use the jumper cables like shown in the vid, and test it. if it works like that its something else.

    Hey now.

I'll just yank the starter off when I can and test it

It's either the starter or a seized engine. Looks like Dan's in for a seized motor. Female drivers.. go figure.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Well I replaced the starter and the car didn't do anything on the first turn of the key. Turned the key again and wala it started up. Turned it off and on a few times and it was still good. So I gave the keys to my sister and she got in it and went to walgreens. Now she is saying it won't start again and that it's doing the same thing that it did before

tell her to slap the column a few times under the key. then try to start it. or hit it while holding the key to start. sometimes this can work. if it starts you know the switch is at fault.

so maybe a bad ignision switch.
