I dunno.... I think they might be thinking along the lines of the AIRBAG going off.. Some people have soo much clutter up front that if their airbag was to deploy, they would have a radar detector, Navi Unit, writing pad, Ipod, & a coffee cup going thru the front of their heads.....

I dont think that is it, because chances are getting into a wreck, you are going to be hurt anyway or at least have the stuff not bolted down flying around (i.e. cup of coffee in cupholder).
