    Hey guys,
I just joined the forum after finding this from another site.

I need some help. My daughter has a 2000 Poniac Grand Prix. She was driving to work the other day and she tells me she swiped a trash can in the street. In doing so, she knocked the mirror out of the housing on the passenger side of her car. My questions are:

Is it possible to just replace the mirror in the housing?

Do I need to replace the entire assembly?

How difficult is it to replace? Any special tools needed? I am not a "true" car guy.

    Anybody have directions/procedure?

Where can I find a replacement? instead of going through a dealership.

    Thanks for all the help.

Hello Tim and welcome to the community. I moved your post to the correct area so that it will get plenty of exposure and hopefully some informative help.

I am the one that referred you to this site. There are quite a few people on here that are really good with these types of repairs and hopefully they will see this and post up the info you need. If not, I will see what I can dig up to help you out.

If you have any other questions, or need any other help feel free to post up.

Speaking with no experience on this matter,

You will probably have to remove the tweater box located near the a-pillar. That will most probably reveal the 2 bolts needed to remove the mirror. As for replacing the mirror only I'm not sure that is an option,At least from the parts I can find.Or should I say can't find.

    As for the miror,

The tweeter box is attached to the door panel so the whole door panel will need to be removed. Remove and unplug the switch panel on the door panel. There are two torx bits under the handle on the door panel (little plastic caps should be covering them). The rest of the panel is held on by plastic clips, a clip removal tool is ideal although a long flathead screwdriver will work. Pry up a corner and remove the rest of the panel by pulling easily all the way around it. Don't forget to unplug the courtesy light and the tweeter speaker wires before completely removing the panel.

IIRC, the mirrior is attached by 3 nuts and I believe theres a wiring harness to unplug. Never went this far. Just removed the power window motor and regulaters on both cars over the years...

    TDRC Racing and Iron Indian,
Thanks for the replies. It does not sound like it is to difficult to handle. Unfortunately, I do not have a heated garage with which to be able to work in so i may have to wait for warmer weather. I may try and get a mirror made and glue that in place until then. I still have to actually take a look at it this weekend.

Thanks again. I appreciate the input.

Did only the glass get knocked out, or was it the backing plate also? If it is only the glass, I can easily get you a replacement redi-cut, or any glass shop that does auto glass replacement should be able to get you a redi-cut mirror glass. However, it is pretty common for the plate the glass attaches to to get knocked out as well. If it's gone, you'll be looking at replacing the entire assembly unless you can find one at a salvage yard.

Thanks for the reply Abrasive. It is only the glass that got knocked out. If I replaced just that, how does it attach? Glue, double sided tape? Can you give me a price to replace the glass?
