3 times in 2 days, on start up, I would get 3 warnings. ABS failure, Traction controlfailure, and Variable effort Steering failure. Upon restart,it would be fine. The 4th time I could not "reset" it. The steering is noticably not working right, and the traction control and ABS are all non-functional.
If it was a fuse........the problem would not have "reset 3 times previous to failure.

    Ruling out fuse.

Im thinking an encoder on one of the front wheels. An encoder there, I would think, would need to communicate with all 3 of those systems to function properly, resulting in all 3 failures being reported at the same time.

I would guess a "no signal" from the encoder, the computer will abort all systems downstream of that sensor.

Am I going down the right path here?

    Thanks...Gary

Check the conectors that go to each wheel bearing and the power steering rack. Either one of those came loose or you have a bad wheelbearing (Typically the wheel bearing's aren't actually bad but rather just the sensor inside them is,The only way to change the sensor is to change the whole wheel bearing.

i have an identical problem on my '99 GT...upon restart i can get them to the lights to turn off and the system works as normal. However, when the lights are on, i noticed the ABS and Traction Control are completely disengaged (not working)

Where can i find these "connections" - what do i look for?

The rack and pinion connection is kind of hard to find but you can see it from under the car. That the variable effort steering. This will also make these light's come on. The other two connectors are on each wheel. The wires run along the lower control arms. The connectors are just inside the wheel and is located near the center of the rim. They can clearly be seen from under the car. Just make sure there plugged in.

More than likley you do have a bad wheel hub. Or rather the sensor is just bad.

    Hope that helped
