I own a 02 Grand Prix and been having a evap code. I checked the Fuel filler neck and it really appeared rusty like crazy. So I just got done 1h ago putting a new one on. Yet the code still stays on, I drove roughly 30 minutes at 55 - 60 MPH and stopped randomly 10 - 15 times turning the car on and off. Running out of options on what this could be causing this error

did you clear the code? if not it takes like 3 passed drive cycles to have completed for a evap code to turn off.

no scanner? un hook the battery for 30 minutes or so, this will reset the pcm and clear the code.

No I did not clear the code. It stayed on even after driving for 1hr. What you mean 3 passed drive cycles? I can try unhooking the battery and see

evap system for what ever reason takes forever to pass its i/m readiness. it wont test till the fuel is dropping past the 1/2 way mark.

if its not fixed it can take a few days to make the cel come back on.

You think it could be something related to the Canister Purge and vent solenoid. And if so I have no idea were these things are and I don't have a scanner

the canister and one solenoid is that black box by the filler neck. the purge solenoid is on the engine.

Thanks Scotty, I'll try unhooking the battery first for 30 minutes too see if it clears, and the canister and solenoid what exactly am I looking for.. Underneath this car is a cesspool of rust. Just need to pass inspection and possibly just going to go to the junk yard and find a body in the 3 year mark and just put my engine in it.

Thanks Scotty for the information you've provided me. I did not get a chance to unhook the battery, yet I just drove it 15 minutes ago turned the heat on since it's getting colder outside and behold the light turned off. Turned it off and on again to see if it would happen again and the Code is gone. Now I need to get new tags for it and try finding a new body so I can put my engine in it... Thanks again Scotty

I just wanted to let you know that the dang code decided to show itself after 2 days of it being off. But I'm also noticing when I start the car it takes some time to turn over. Could this be the fuel pump that is causing this issue and the evap code

whats the code being its back again.

most of the time its the lines or a solenoid or the canister. not the f/p.

right back where you started. leaking line, or the purge solenoid. if you dont see broken line do the solenoid.

440..isn't that large leak? Which means it should be obvious to a degree.

Fill the tank full... drive around a bit and if you smell fuel, then you have a leak on top etc. Take the soleniod off, blow threw it, apply +12V to it and see if you have the opposite of the no power test.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Anyone have any pictures of the exact locations of these parts, so I know what I'm looking for. I did how ever notice a big black hose next to the fuel filler neck on the driver side rear leading up top to some black box. Is this the one of the on Soleniods
