Getting codes p0420 and p0171. Symptoms are of a bad TPS but the car doesnt have one. What is the equivalent of a TPS on an 05.

P0420 is low catalytic converter function. P0171 is too lean condition. They are possibly related, look for a vacuum leak.

    How's the car running?

Not at all. Starts then dies immediately. Also before this happened I was getting stuttering/hesitation. And from a stop I was getting a jerk sometimes. Almost as if the tranny was slipping. A google of TPS symptoms basically describes exactly what's happening but the 05s don't have a TPS. I need to know it's equivalent so I can replace it.

you codes lead to a vac leak more then likely.

    http://www.obd-codes.com/p0171

http://www.p0420.com/ also maybe a chance the cat is clogged up. the check engine light ever flash? car sound like a vacuum with a full bag when you floor it driving, when it ran?

remove the o2 sensor from the rear manifold, then fire it up, see if it stays running.

this will make a nice exhaust leak, its pre cat so if it runs the cat is clogged up.

Driving on the highway about 55 I was getting weird what seemed like downshifts. Then at stop lights when starting off I was getting a nasty jerk. Also when going wot it was stuttering/struggling. I will try what you asked and see.

a bad maf can cause shifting issues too. un plug it car off, then fire it up see if it runs shifts better, dont go beating on it maf unplugged tho.

Also check the vac line that goes to the T under the supercharger snout.

your gonna need a 7/8 th o2 socket to remove the o2 if you do that test.

if you have not cleaned the maf, clean it with maf cleaner only.

is that broken tube before or after the maf tube? maf tube to intake? or air box to maf tube?

That's the MAF to TB hose. The side you don't see has a hole where the PCV valve empties into. That would be your P0171 problem, but you may still have the P0420 come back although a lean condition can cause that too.
