1995 Grand Prix 3.4 mounts need changing. The motor and trans jumps towards the front of the car when I put it into gear. I got under the car and it looks like the passenger side trans mount. Looks like a pain to change. How is this done and any shortcuts on how to do it. Also the engine mounts where are they located. And how hard to also change them out.

Passenger side.. If it's anything like the 3.8, that would be a motor mount. Either way..it's a mount. Try taking a look at the mount replacement write up for the 3.8 and see if it doesn't look very similar. I think it's close enough to get you going. Overall..they are pretty easy.

And you seem to have a negative attitude... lol

I'd find write ups in the how to section. I'm sure there's a mount swapping one in there.

Not with an attitude like that. 3100/3400 is slightly different than the typical 3800, but any 3800 write up will get you in the ballpark LIKE BILL SUGGESTED.

The only real difference is you have to remove the bracket to remove the mount.

I honestly don't see how what I write shows a negative attitude. Well anyway I didn't mean for it to come off that way, just wanted to bring th thread to the top so maybe someone will see it.

Unortunatly that write up is not for the mount that I need to change. I will use it thought when I change out the front one. The one that is broken is as I described in the first post is the one that is on the inside or right side of the engine and it appears it is for the transmission.

How many mounts does the car have. I know of the front one and the one on the trans at the front of the motor.

Well, I incorrectly assumed your 3.4 was a 3400, which it is not. While it looks like you have the same transmission mount, you actually have *two* motor mounts that are quite different than the 3100/3400/3800 engines.

Any write ups on these mounts.

I could give you a write up if you can take a picture of those mounts. I don't believe we currently have anything written up though.

It's a little hard to get up in there to take a picture. The Haynes manual I have says you have to remove the passenger side axle and and move the spindle out of the way. I just figured someone did one here and offer a better way to do it.

Being intrigued by that.. I took a look at the parts themselves. Looks like the right side of this motor is seriously strapped down. I doubt the spindle has to move. Especially if the axle is out already. Likely you need to jack that side up pretty high to slide those out, which would account for the axle. I can't understand the spindle unless it's for more room.

They also want you to remove the hood. So the motor must have to get up pretty high like you suggest. They also want the engine torque strut removed, they want the lower ball joint broken to move everything out of the way.

I find it hard to believe that no one on this forum has done motor mounts on a 3.4 dohc Grand Prix.

the 3.4 DOHC is a very rare engine. not much aftermarket. not much love out there for it. I had one for a long time and loved it. if your doing all the mounts, just get an engine support bracket and then drop the cradle and do the mounts that way. but yes the above was correct there are two lower mounts on the pass side and the trans mount is shared with other Wbody cars. the upper dog bone is also unique to this engine.
