In a few other threads I mentioned how my DIC Tranny Temp was registering over 250 degrees when driving for long periods on the highway!
I took it to my mechanic to put a tranny cooler on it and he did some driving to observe the temp reading. The fluid looked great and he thought it was unusual how fast the temp seemed to rise.
When he got back to the garage he put a thermal gun on the tranny hose to see what reading came up - the reading was 159 degrees but the DIC said 201.
After the car cooled down his thermal reading and the DIC were about 5 degrees off which could be normal, but the 'hotter' the DIC got the bigger the disconnect with the thermal reading.
The engine never got hot and the fans only kicked in once during his test which cooled things off 15 degrees before turning off so all those temps seem normal.
He went ahead with the tranny cooler as cheap insurance but has anyone seen this kind of disconnect with the DIC reading?
