hopefully this is a easy fix !!! my girlfriends son inherited her 2000 GP (3.1) when he turned 16 . on sunday he ran it out of gas , called , i ran a couple gallons gas to him , car wouldnt start . the temps that day were sub-zero's so i'm wondering if maybe there was some moisture in the lines that froze up .

the shop it was towed to doesnt have any diagnostic equipment to hook up to it ( i know , get with the times , but they are a good bunch of guys) and they added more gas and it still doesnt start , they pushed it into the shop for the night hoping it would warm up and what ever froze would thaw out .

is there maybe a safety feature of some sort in the fuel pump that would shut it down with no fuel that needs to be re-set ? if it doesnt start after sitting in the shop over night i will have to get it to a shop that can hook up an OBD.

    any suggestions ??

time for some HEET. hopefully that breaks up the water and what not and burns it.

sounds like your lines are frozen. any way to leave the car inside to thaw out for a while?

I believe Bio is probably correct, but I think we also recently had another member that did nearly an identical thing but it was just warmer and I recall that in that situation it popped the fuel pump fuse because of the extra load on the pump trying to pump from a dry tank and the added heat from not having any fuel to cool it. So you may want to make sure the fuses are good.

thanks for the replies !!! turns out the fuel pump took a dump. when he ran out of gas he had the key on listening to the radio , which in turn i believe powers up the pump as well , so , no fuel to keep the pump cool and it eventually burned out .

it sat over night in the shop and still didnt fire, so i had it towed to a shop with the proper diagnostic equipment, and within a 1/2 hour i had the bad news.

the internet is a wonderful thing isnt it ? there are a few forums i frequent (stevesnovasite , jalopyjournal ) and it always feels good (to me anyway ) when i can help a new comer with a specific question .

    thanks again for the replies
